The same night Skelton fights Rogan, his old mate Sprotty gets back into the mix in Germany (again), challenging Italian Francisco Pianatta (sp?) for that crappy EU belt.

Pianatta beat Scott Gammer in 8 rds but his record suggests he is pretty limited. Sprott should handle him, but how many times have we said that?

Anyone have any links to Sprott? Is his heart still in the game, or is now just about the payday?

I saw that fight on nuts - Gammer was easily controlling the fight with just the left hand, his right - i think - was broke and the corner pulled him out because of the pain it was causing him. I cant recall him throwin a single right hand in that fight because of it. Pianatta was terrible.

I think Gammer said his thumb went in the warm up when he was hitting the pads, if he could of thrown the right hand i feel he would of beaten Pianatta inside the distance.
Pianatta ate Gammers jab all night long, and Sprott has good boxing skills, if Michael is in shape he can outbox Pianatta , he may need a stoppage though.

I would definately go out there and support Sprotty but it looks a real dog to get to. It's about 150 miles from the nearest airport and not even on a main autobahn.

Shame really cos if it were practical I'd definately go, it looks a good card.

Sprott, 34, is working in removals and regularly removes himself to the Continent to cash in on the lucrative German fight scene, where they like their fighters big and methodical like Pianeta, as does Sprott. Small for the weight, his speed and agility means he always does well over there and yet he blows horribly hot and cold over here, which is quite baffling. He was good enought to flatten Audley Harrison in three rounds at Wembley in February 2007 but a fight later came a dreary loss to Bedford's Matt Skelton at London's O2 Arena (his second dreary loss to Skelton), and it was back to the road for Michael.
Pianeta looked pretty awful in winning the EU belt last year with an injury stoppage of burly Welshman Scott Gammer after eight rounds (Gammer retired on his stool with a damaged right hand) but the 24-year-old southpaw is unbeaten in 18 fights and enjoys all the comforts of big German backing, especially if it is close. Inevitably, the strong, lumbering Pianeta must be favoured to nick a contentious decision.

I read a report that though Sprott was fat and out of shape the Bidenko loss was still a robbery -- the report reads that Sprott basically won 97-93, tiring in the last 2 rds.

Can anyone verify this? What is Sprotts actual record once you deduct the dodgy overseas decisions i wonder? And why the hell cant he fight every fight with the aggression and focus he applied for Audley Harrison?

Does anybody have Sprott/Bidenko on DVD I can buy & check out for myself?

That European Union belt is a very poor belt. Sprott should win this fight because I've seen Pianetta fight twice in the last six months in the Gammer and out in Switzerland on the Holyfield-Valuev bill and he's a pretty average fight.

Wont be a great fight to watch but always good when British fighters win and especially against Italians.

It's my opinion anyway and I have every right to have one, that's why I joined the forum.

It does help a fighter get a shot at the European belt, and so it is certainly not a very minor title.

What aggression was that? Focus, maybe, although to me he looked intimidated in there. He got the win, though, so of course credit for that, but I didn't see an aggressive fighter in there. In fact, I saw a beaten man let back into the fight - with dramatic consequences.

Beaten man? Off one knock down in the opening round? When Sprott started rushing Audley by the end of the first Audley stopped fighting, started holding, and Sprott flattened him in 3.

Never saw him looking a beaten man at all.

My favourite Sprotty performance was against Virchis.

He bossed Virchis throughout, and was a clean winner on my card.
