Coaches Clinic in Grand Rapids

Post by Dennis »

In spite of bad weather - minus 15 degree wind chills and fairly heavy snow fall, we had a great turnout at the coaches clinic. About 16 to 18 coaches attended the clinic held at our gym. I provided coffee and other drinks, pretzels and donuts so the coaches didn't starve or get dehydrated during the afternoon.

We will do at least one more clinic prior to the start of the 2009 West Michigan Golden Gloves tournament. In years past we would host a clinic the first day of the tournament. However, the clinic takes longer now and there isn't a lot of time for the coaches in between the weigh-ins, draw/bracketing, the Junior matchmaking and coaches meeting in the morning through early afternoon and the physicals in the early evening. The coaches have to take their boxers to get their pre-competition meal and get the boxers ready to compete.

We might do a clinic 2-3 weeks before the start of the tournament.

A clinic was conducted in Bay City too and they certified/recertified 9 coaches. The clinicians also get recertified which means almost 30 coaches in Michigan are now certified for the next 24 months and have knowledge about all the new rules and the rules that were changed.
