Osman Aktas V John Simpson, European title

Post by whicker »

Set for March 14th in France. Should be a good match up, I'd say, but it looks like the home fighter carries the advantage. Bit unlucky that this clashes with 2 other bills, I'd like to watch this one.

It is for the EU title, not the European title.

Cant see this happening now to be honest, no need for Jon, just wait for the winner of Appleby/Lindsay if that indeed happens and have a double title fight.

Winner would climb the Euro rankings anyway

That's an important distinction to make. The European Champion is Oleg Yefimovych.

It's a huge difference and one mistake people regularly make.
Simpson should be able to beat Aktas and I actually think it's a good idea for Simpson to take this fight.
It will put him into a position where he'll probably have the option of the Ukrainian for the full European title or else to take the winner of Lindsay v Appleby.

Simpson deserves a straight shot at the European title.

Well spotted- it is EU.

How does EU relate to the European title? Is it sort of one level below, a bit like the English title is below the British?

Or is it more like a WBU sort of thing?

why is Simpson going out to France to fight?

I would have thought he would like a crack at the winner of Lindsay-Appleby or even give the lad Truscott a rematch.

He can still do both of those fights.

What does he really have to lose by taking this fight?

not much because his record isnt great with a couple of losses but just didnt think Aktas or the belt was a good choice.
