Venues in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Post by Emaster »

I don't know whether the Pennsylvania Hall is the same venue as the Pennsylvania Hall,Civic Center, but at any rate the latter should have a space behind the comma. I merely found the historic Pennsylvania Hall in Wikipedia, in which boxing cards cannot have been held in the 1980s.

A space has been added behind "Pennsylvania Hall," :TU:. As this has been worked on and the cards held at Pennsylvania Hall have not been merged with those held at Pennsylvania Hall, Civic Center, I conclude that they are indeed two different venues. Is that correct?

The Civic Center was a complex of buildings -- I don't think any fights ere ever held at "Pennsylvania, Civic Center"

Rather I believe fights at the Civic Center were held at The Auditorium, otherwise known as Convention Hall.

"The Auditorium, otherwise known as Convention Hall" is within the Civic Center? Couldn't one of the buildings the Civic Center is made up of be called "Pennsylvania Hall"?

Anyway, some of these entries might refer to the same venue(s) and need merging:
1. Civic Center
2. Convention Center
3. Convention Hall
4. PA Convention Center
5. Pennsylvania Convention Center
6. Pennsylvania Hall
7. Pennsylvania Hall, Civic Center

 What needs merging is the minds of lazy commissions, publicist and boxing reporters who don't do their research. :TU:

To update the state of affairs:
Emaster wrote:Anyway, some of these entries might refer to the same venue(s) and need merging:
1. Civic Center
2. Convention Center
3. Convention Hall
4. PA Convention Center
5. Pennsylvania Convention Center
6. Pennsylvania Hall
7. Pennsylvania Hall, Civic Center
The sixth entry on the list has now been dissolved. And the seventh had been challenged by the editor delisa:

That's correct. Pennsylvania Hall was built in 1978 and destroyed in 2007. It was the site of the Meldrick Taylor v. Glenwood Brown fight in 1992.

Thus the Pennsylvania Hall, Civic Center is a valid entry. Maybe the Convention Hall entry should be renamed in "Convention Hall, Civic Center" if it is indeed another section of the Civic Center as delisa said. And the generic Civic Center entry could be dissolved and its shows added to more specific entries like the aforementioned.

Do Convention Center, PA Convention Center and Pennsylvania Convention Center refer to the same site?

I agree with you that a complex of buildings such as the Civic Center should be split into the specific venues. I don't agree that each of these venues should have the attachment 'Civic Center' - details of its exact wherabouts can be mentioned in the Encyclopaedia.
Regarding the Convention Centers, yes they refer to a single venue. Venues in general need much cleaning up.

Then "Pennsylvania Hall, Civic Center" should be renamed in "Pennsylvania Hall".

EDIT: Which has been done :TU:: "Pennsylvania Hall".

They've been merged under "PA Convention Center" :TU:.

The Civic Center entry consists of three shows which could be moved to specific venues if the required information was available.
