Nathan cleverly V Simon Onyango tonight

Post by whicker »

Nathan Cleverly takes on Simon Onyango for the commonwealth belt tonight.

Simon appears to have a decent enough record in Kenya, but that isn't telling us much.

Anyone going to this- any thoughts on who might win? Nathan seems a decent enough boxer, but it is hard to tell what a fight against such an unknown opponent will prove.

That's one thing to bring up - it's by Warren and K & M Promotions, not just Warren. Not sure who they are.

This all does go to show. All the bad matchups you see. Does seem typical of the promoter, no?

Wait! It wasn't FW's fault, it was the BBBofC's fault for letting the IBO, WBU, WBO in. Now they can't use WBU, IBO any more. Now it's Commonwealth. Traditional title, etc. And the matchups are terrible, even more so. Is it FW/SN fault? Nah, it's Sky Sports' fault.

The one good excuse is, Cleverly is very young and could be going towards a Francis fight. Francis has been so inactive, and probably did his last big performance v Oakey. Is fighting these little obscure African guys to give him more confidence in his power, or something?

clev, dean francis and jamie cox are the only SN fighters on the bill. it appears to be a co-promotion rather than a straight SN bill.

It looks like the Clev V Francis fight will happen soon providing they both win, However I noticed that francis was 14st 4 of the scales for tonight... seems heavey

What a bag of shit. Do Warren and Sky have any respect for the paying public? Third woeful Friday Fight Night in a row from Sky.

yeah that was poor, Cleverly can only beat whats put in front of him, some first round KO's can just happen like Brook v Mcintyre, and its not a mismatch. But tonights was a mismatch

What a shambles that was. Genuinely embarrassing. Tempted to email Sky on the link below that was just awful.

Cleverly is in no way a headliner for nationally televised shows. Not his fault. But he shouldn't be facing no-hopers to try and make him one.

Nice words by Cleverly, he knows he still has work to do, so not shouting his mouth off calling out everyone.

Bring on Francis next i think, see who really is best in UK

Bad ref call in the cox fight. You can tell why none of theses refs are getting promoted to A star.

Norton and Dolan was an entertaining fight but the undercards of Friday Fight Night are horrible and there are some poor fighters on them with good records particulary on Hearn's cards [Harrison and Burton]

Actually I'd forgotten about the Norton and Dolan one but the 2 prior to that (the Chris Edwards and Kell Brook shows) were dreadful with poor main events and terrible undercards and tonights show has set a new low. Even Warren doesn't bother coming to these shows but he expects the public to shell out at the box office and watch on sky sports.

To be fair the undercard was OK, although generally predicatable. Main event - what were we expecting? No more of these farcical commonwealth defences please.

Worth pointing out too that Karl Taylor got a draw, ending a streak of more than FIFTY losses in a row.
