QUICK INTRODUCTION
My name is Giovanni Falcone and I am the coach at Northside Boxing in Cincinnati, Ohio. My father John Falcone started the program 31 years ago. We do a lot of travelling so we would love to know when people are hosting shows. We also host about six shows per year. We will usually help with gas money and some food expenses. We will be hosting one on Saturday February 28th. One of my fighters introduced himself about a month ago. His name is Donte Strayhorn. He will actually be having a nice matchup on the 28th with Zeddie Adams from Cleveland. They are right in the same state but have never actually fought each other, should be a great matchup. They are ranked 6th and 8th on Michael Smiths Mens January Rankings. Dennis I have met you before being in the same region. I had a fighter fight Niahl in Wisconsin and I had a kid named Brandon Terry fight Jordan in the Silver Gloves at light heavy one year. I have seen you Mel a lot but we have not spoken much, but we do share a mutual freind in John Pinto. I have been reading topics on here for a long time, figured that I might as well get involved in the conversations.
Re: QUICK INTRODUCTION
Giovanni - I remember the Sheboygan show. I also remember the Silver Gloves Regionals. Actually their bout was at a lower weight than light-heavy. I think they boxed at 165. Whatever happened to Brandon Terry?
Zeddie Adams is very good, but a year younger than Donte so it should be a very good bout. Too bad that we are already committed to another show on the 28th. I would like to see the bout between these two young boxers. Maybe somebody can videotape it and put in on YouTube with a link to it on this site.

Re: QUICK INTRODUCTION
You are correct Dennis, that was the year Brandon lost in the finals of the nationals to Mark DeLaRosa, it was at 165 lbs. The first year Brandon boxed open he had a great year and the week before we were leaving for the National Golden Gloves he had an aneurism. They caught it before it had burst, but there was still over a year of recovery time. The doctors actually cleared him to fight, but you can imagine my worry to him boxing again. He has done OK since his return but I dont think that he will ever be the same. I will try to definitely film the fight and post it between Donte and Zeddie.

I can understand your concern. That is scary.coachgiovanni wrote:You are correct Dennis, that was the year Brandon lost in the finals of the nationals to Mark DeLaRosa, it was at 165 lbs. Jordan was 14 and a few months when he boxed Brandon. Brandon was very strong and was a little older (almost 15). It was a good learning experience for Jordan and was one of those losses in the J.O. ranks that helped him when he started competing in the open class. I remember a few months later Brandon boxing Ken Porter in a tough bout in the 2003 Regional J.O. Senior (15-16 year-old) Championships. Ken went on to win the National and International J.O.'s. It is a shame that Ken didn't stick with boxing. I bet you remember the bout with Porter too.

Re: QUICK INTRODUCTION
Brandon did very well with both Ken and Shawn. He boxed both of them twice. Brandon seemed to be well on his way in the open division, but like I said I dont know if the long lay off hurt him or if the surgery has just affected his performance ability in our sport. He actually wants to turn pro but I want to see him perform better in the amateurs before turning him pro. On top of the fact that the pro game scares me even more for his situation.
Re: QUICK INTRODUCTION
Is Brandon boxing at 165 or 178? I hope he listens to you and doesn't turn pro until he is ready.
Re: QUICK INTRODUCTION
Hi Giovanni - nice to see you here. Will be nice to have another knowledgeable coach in the mix. I met you years ago when you just a little kid - I think your dad brought you out to California and John brought you to a show. Memories are fuzzy. 8)I have seen you Mel a lot but we have not spoken much, but we do share a mutual freind in John Pinto.

Re: QUICK INTRODUCTION
We will be at the PAL, we were there this year, I had two guys with me, Donte Strayhorn made it to the Semi-finals at 141 Open and Miakail Jones won at 125 Intermediate. It was a fun week and we got to hang out with John while we were there. You were definitely young! Hopefully we'll cross paths in the future. I'll probably be at the PAL in San Antonio the end of this year - maybe then.

Re: QUICK INTRODUCTION
You seemed very busy and I am one of those guys that does not do a lot of hanging out at the fights. Im focused on my guys, and if they are not fighting I take them out to experience whatever city we are in. Next time I will make a point to say hello in person. So was I - and you didn't even find me to say hello!
