Where is Broncado. This thread belongs in the HOF as one of the greatest and most educated ever made here at boxrec. Maybe since it's so superior to any of his, he doesn't want to even show he knows of it's exsistance.

OK flex, we get it. You can stop bumping this up to the top now. It was a nice contribution but not an invaluable one as that list can be found in any edition of The Ring Record Book and several other publications as well.

Now...if you really want to have fun, try doing it with the middleweight. And no fair using the Ring record Books , tomato face. (Not that I ever use them myself.)

Flex...I agree with your not listing all those fringe "champions", but I think Foreman regaining the title belongs in there. He has way more credibility than either Hart or Root, who were mostly just "declared" champions by Jim Jeffries, and are missing from most lineage histories.

right on terap. I've always felt that was a negative comment on Ali, rather than the great acclaim for the "Winning title for third time" it's usually considered. this "winning back" means the fighter has to lose to do that. Jimmy Carter made a career out of losing to mediocre opponents and then "winning back" the title from them in rematches.

Patterson did the same thing. Lost to the mediocre Johansen and then took it back...from the guy he made champion in the first place.

I do think Foreman's regaining the title was an amazing feat, as he came out of retirement so many years later, and Ali's winning it again by taking it from Foreman were outstanding achievements, as they were under entirely differerent circumstances.

Back to Ali/Spinks...I can't say he tanked it, but by losing to Spinks, in a terrible performance, Ali was able to avoid another fight with his nemesis Ken Norton.

Sugar Ray (the real one) also a differenet story. Came out of retirement to regain it the first time, and then lost tough fights to tough guys when he was well past his prime and was still able to reach down and do it once more.

Flex...I've been a follower of boxing for years and have three shelves of books on the subject, including the old Ring Record Books...plus a lot of magazines going back to the thirties.

My point is that I can look up these chronological lists and have memorized a lot over the years.

But...not everyone has access to this information, especially as most of these books have been out of print and hard to get for years.

So..I think it's irrelevant how you come up with these lists...they are a good service to those who rely on this forum for much of their information and I think you should be thanked for going to the trouble to post them
