GL: What's the latest and greatest, and what can we expect to see from you against Gato Figueroa? "I'm going to get Gato out of the way, and then I'm going to see what the deal is with me and [IBF junior welterweight titlist Juan] Urango getting it on by summer. Then, once Nate gets finished with Zab, I might even give him a shot, just to whoop his ass."
GL: It's interesting that you got right to it. I've been all over this whole situation...
Randall Bailey: I'm getting right to it, ain't no need to hide behind. Let's get right to it.
GL: I've been all over this situation with Zab and Nate, all the back and forth with the phone calls.
RB: Zab's a clown, he's a clown. He likes sending out verbal threats, knowing he ain't going to do shit for real. Zab, you're playing with the right crew, for the right nut. He's playing with the right crew.
GL: According to Zab, John David Jackson said something negative about him. He called John David Jackson and left him a message, and then you called up Zab.
RB: Exactly, yeah I did that. What's he doing calling John's phone leaving messages like that? Saying he needs to wear a bulletproof vest, and a helmet, and all of that. He don't need to wear no bulletproof vest around here. We ain't hiding, you want to see us, come see us. Better yet, we'll come see you too. If you want it that bad.
GL: Getting back to real boxing. What do you know about Figueroa, and what weaknesses do you see in him that you plan on exploiting on fight night?
RB: Just keeping a very high workrate, and putting the pressure on him and making him fight. That way, it will be over quick.
GL: So, you don't see the fight going the distance then?
RB: No, I don't see it going the distance. I'm going to be in great shape for this fight, and I'm just going to put the pressure. They're always talking about the old Randall Bailey, this time they're going to see the new and improved, and more physical, with the same power, Randall Bailey, come April 3rd.
GL: Did you see his last fight against Emanuel Augustus, and did you think he won the fight?
RB: Yes, I saw his last fight. I didn't think he won that fight, and I saw him in a lot of other fights. He's just not an impressive looking fighter.
GL: Is there any chance that you could be too overconfident coming into this fight, and overlooking the dude?
RB: No, because unfortunately for me, these are the types of fights that I always lose. I always overlook the guy that I'm fighting, because I already know they don't want to fight me. I feel like, just me getting in there with them is going to win the fight. It turns out that's the wrong attitude. I still have to put in 100% at the gym, and work in the gym to do what I need to do in the ring.
GL: What's the exact date for the fight?
RB: April 3rd.
GL: Closing thoughts for the fans.
RB: In 2009, Randall Bailey's going to win a world title, his third one. Hopefully I can get a unification with Timothy Bradly or Kendall Holt, it really doesn't matter to me which one. I'm hoping to fight anybody in the 140-pound division.
Good to read an interview..
