whatever happened to George 'boy' Collins. Anybody know

George was unbeaten as an amatuer, then ran into Gary Stretch who knocked him out in a round.
The rumour was Warren paid George £50,000 to turn pro, massive money really.

the Stretch fight was shown live on Record Breakers, as George was going for the longest unbeaten amateur record, but as in boxing it didn't quite work out for George

Hugely padded record, then got beat and that was it if I remember correctly

He wasn't as bad as people made out. His fight with Gary Jacobs was top class.

Yeah i think alot of people forget he turned pro at 17, so could be forgiven for a slow build-up.
His career was all over by the time he was 22, think he was one who just didn't quite have the mans strength to compete at a higher level in the pro's. Maybe that would of come if he had turned over to the pro's later.

Well, some have argued he was not truthful about his age - and one reason he was so succesful as a junior was becaue if this. Don't know if this is rubbish, but have heard this about lot of gypsy fighters.

just got off the phone with Les Stevens
George Collins is taking his boys down to pinewood star training them there, so you might see him at shows, and also Benny is taking his to the gym, Tonys is just too small at the mo, but no doubt we will see them at the am shows around sw london/surrey
