Nathan Cleverly vs Montel Griffin

Post by ProboxerUK »

I'm a friend of Nathan's and allegedly has promised Nathan a big fight after his next (around July). He's offered him a fight with Montel Griffin, a WBO eliminator on the undercard of Khan's next fight. It's up to Nathan and his team if he's ready for the step up.

Nath was very excited about it so It may go ahead.

I was surprised when I heared this, I figured he'd go the European route first but if this happens I'll take my hat off to Frank, Griffin is old and possible shot but he's still an awkward and decent fighter at this stage for Cleverly. Cleverly is ranked 14 with the WBO and Dean Francis is ranked 8 and that's another match mentioned.

Think Cleverly will be fresher at 18 years younger.

That's a nice learning fight for Nathan and should be well winnable. How on earth can it be a WBO eliminator, though? Cleverley is on the way up but not yet within sniffing distance of a real world ranking, while Griffin hasn't been top 10 for a long time now, and especially not since losing to novice Shumenov last year.

x2. I might even be forced to go to this. Especially if Khan does rematch Prescott.

Beibut Shumenov already did this with less fights.

Try again.

Cleverly WBO elim - cos he stayed with FW.

Cleverly might aswell take the fght because he simply does not have the power to last at worldclass and I will say he will never become genuine world class.

I think it's a good fight to go for, even if Shumenov beat Griffin with only 5 bouts under his belt.

I agree with your last sentence. What do Maccarinelli and Pryce get? Knocked out. What does Cleverly get? A WBO eliminator.

Griffin took a beating from Shumenov.

You can bet your arses that the spin doctor commentators will give barely a mention of what Shumenov did in his what, 6th pro fight.

Wankers.

Crude matchmaking, I can see it now.

Clevery destroys the first man to beat the great Roy Jones Jr!

Another shifty dodgy fight.

We've seen what happens when FW makes "competitive" fights:

Khan-Prescott
Macca-Haye
Macca-Afolabi
Cook-Luevano
Cook-Martinez

We've seen what happens when FW makes "competitive" fights:

Khan-Prescott - Made by Khan and his Trainer
Macca-Haye - Shit or bust!
Macca-Afolabi - Mandated Fight

FW could just as easily argue Hatton-Tszyu, Khan-Barrera etc. C'mon, we all know nothing is as straightforward as that!

Yeah Autobarn, get your facts straight. Frank doesn't choose to make competive fights for his stable. Sometimes they are forced into them as per the list but don't go blaming that on Mr Warren.

that's not my point. ultimately he stages the fights. my point is, when a fight is made that looks like it's going to be "competitive", FW fighter gets smashed
