"Además, el contendor mediano Rogelio “Porky” Medina avanzo su invicto a 17-0 (14 Kos) al derrotar por decisión unánime en ocho vueltas a Bladimir Hernández, quien quedo con marca de 15-2 (13 KOs).

En otro resultado interesante, el invicto supermediano Rigoberto Álvarez venció por nocaut técnico en el sexto asalto a Eduardo Ayala. Álvarez mejoro su inmaculada marca a 22-0 y 16 KOs. Ayala descalabro a 17-25-4 y 8 KOs."

Is Fernando Montiel interim or full titlist?

Post by Emaster »

Did Fernando Montiel really win the vacant interim version of the WBO bantamweight title or did he gain the full title? As opposed to what the ring announcer claimed, Montiel said in an interview with BS.com (at 2:10) conducted on March 25, 2009 that the full title would be at stake.

It was for the Interim.

Also Rogelio Medina beat Bladimir Hernandez, he didn't fight Cristian Solano.

As it is already shown on the site, please note that Medina ended up fighting versus Solano as a replacement for Blamidir Hernandez after Hernandez pulled out at the last minute.

Also, the weights for this fight were, Medina 72.7 Kg vs. Solano 72.0 Kg...

It was for the Interim.
At the moment, BoxRec claims that the full title was on the line.

Now, the interim title is registered in the database.

 The Media is split down the middle and the WBO site is very bad at updating.

It still has Penalosa as champ but has two articles in their Boxing News stating Montiel won the “full title”. :witzend:

BoxRec now reflects The official TJ Commish report that states it was for the “full title”.

Montiel himself was reentered as WBO super flyweight titlist a few days before his latest fight, which made me wonder whether the full WBO super flyweight title was really at stake in the Lopes vs. Posuwan fight.

That both Montiel's super flyweight title and Penalosa's bantamweight title became vacant by the day of the fights would fit Montiel's statement to which I linked from the second post and the fact that Paul Williams had to relinquish his WBO welterweight title in order to go for a portion of the WBO light middleweight title against Verno Phillips last year.

Edit: Thread offering solutions on these issues

That's correct. Both fights were for the full title, you just have to phone the WBO... ;-) They will normally update their rankings next week...

See here: http://www.notifight.com/artman2/publis ... ampe_n.php

There's also a link to such an article by NotiFight on the WBO page concerning Montiel...
