Adam Smith
Adam Smith has over seventeen fascinating years of exceptional experience in the broadcasting industry; from handling a wide variety of showbiz stars and reviewing films for TV-AM, through dealing with breaking political, social and sports news on the desks of CNN and ITN, to lead presenting, commentating and reporting roles for Sky Television.
In 1989, Adam began his media career by working through the night photocopying scripts for TV-AM and today stands as one of the nation’s most high profile boxing commentators. Adam wanted to be a commentator from a very young age. He used to practice on all sports and particularly loved doing the Grand National. He even recorded his own version of the 1983 National, when he was 11 years old!
The race was won by Corbiere and Adam’s voice hadn’t even broken! Early accomplishments include hospital radio, production experience on CNN’s political programme, Crossfire, in Washington DC, time spent as a sports journalist for his local press, and assisting the foreign and home news desks of both NBC and ITN in London.
Adam joined Sky Sports as a production trainee in 1994. His rich, distinctive voice was immediately recognised and at just twenty-three, he was thrown into a range of voiceover work while he was still making the tea!
Adam covered all angles of television production behind the camera, from running the VT trucks to cutting sports packages, before quickly rising through the ranks to become one of Sky Sports’ leading reporters.
He interviewed many famous stars from a variety of sports and sent in reports from all over Europe and the USA. Football, cricket and tennis have always been passions but Adam’s niche came in the incomparable and exciting world of boxing.
Adam rose from reporter to commentator and has now been covering many major world title fights on both sides of the Atlantic for almost a decade.
He is one of the few genuine boxing experts in the world and has forged close working relationships with the sport’s marquee names. Adam has written, produced and narrated documentaries on Prince Naseem Hamed, Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton and has spent weeks in training camps with the biggest US fighters from Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis to Roy Jones Jr, Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Because of his adaptability, Sky asked Adam to anchor Sky Sports News and inserts for Sky News. Despite his commentary commitments, they constantly call on him to help present both the live boxing and recorded editorial shows.
Now into his thirteenth season at Sky and having acquired vast experience and a huge range of skills within the industry, Adam feels the time is right to broaden out, and he is highly ambitious to achieve so much more.
Adam is keen to turn his hand to writing, undertake a selection of challenging voice work and public speaking and to mature as a coveted presenter, commentator and reporter in both the sports’ and news’ worlds.
Adam Smith is a consummate professional, extremely disciplined and an excellent broadcaster who has gained enormous respect from his peers within the media world.
