Haye's Power
Haye's Power
I wonder about Haye's power and whether we can truly class it as monstrous, which appears to be the prevalent belief. Barratt went down a lot, but kept getting back up. Enzo Macc was and is no stranger to the canvas, Bonin seemed shocked as much as anything and wanted to carry on and Gurov was sparked the same by Dunstan years before.
Also, whilst he had Carl Thompson in trouble, he couldn't floor him. Eubank, Nelson, Ashley, Rocchigiani, Sellers, Davis and Rothmann all did.
Clearly Haye carries a hefty dig and has fast hands, but I'm not convinced his fists are the terror of the division.

I do agree but Wlad is no stranger to the canvas either

all but one win inside the distance against a high class opponent from the start of career.Trust me, he's a massive puncher.
Re: Haye's Power
He doesn't have genuine one punch KO power, no way. Still a wicked puncher though.

Re: Haye's Power
posts like this always bemuse me. It's like trying to find irrelevant little peripheral details to try and justify an argument. I'm sure I could use similar examples to make Julian Jackson or Tyson seems like less-than-huge hitters. It's pretty obvious Haye is a natural puncher.

+ i think Danny Williams said that the three most powerful punchers he had faced in his career were, Tyson, Klitschko and Haye, in that order.
Re: Haye's Power
Haye has a lot of power, probably enough to spark Wlad, but I don't think he has as much as either Klitschko. He probably has more than any other current HW though.

Re: Haye's Power
I think his power is somewhat overrated. Obviously he punches hard but ts not apocalyptic power like some would have you believe. In my view anyway
I dont even think he is that quick either, if the brrat fght is anything to go by. I honestly dont see how he beats any of the Klits

yeahe, Danny said that tyson hit him the hardest ("scary power"), Vitali hit hard as well and then Haye in sparring (with big gloves too) hit harder than all his other opponents. I can beleive it. Go and watch hayde live and you can see how heavy hadned he is.A proper puncher. I want a source for that sounds like another poster making up facts in order to prove something that is very hard to sallow. So like I called bullshit before on people that lie, I call bullshit on this idea that haye hits harder the K.
As for Haye's punch power a video analysis (only the key parts not the entire fights I do have a life) of his last 4 fights shows me this:
-haye hits hard, true. BUT
-Haye requires a series of setup punches before he delivers his most powerful shot. In fact most of his punches throw people of balance and are thus exposed to a follow up shot. However his first punch is not the power shot. His power punch is normally punch 3 right after a fast right and left punches normally coming from the outside.
-His straight punches are quite honestly a typical CW level of power. In my opinion he has no juice in the 1 straight punch. His combos are the key. This is a weakness because I don't think he will have many opportunities to get in close to do his typical arching in punches (hayemakers) to the head.
-His jabs seem to be feather touches, clearly not as powerful as Wlad's jab
As for the power analysis of Wladimir K. I found this analysis that was done when he fought Byrd in Germany. Its old but it still applies in fact I think his power has went up:
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=6480&more=1
Power: Top notch. Even though he's more likely to chop his opponent down over 4 or 5 rounds, Wlad's power is A+. His offense has never been his problem. Much like Evander Holyfield, his power is in his combinations. If the first punch doesn't hurt you, the third or fourth one will.

1) Can we arrange for Haye to tump you in your head with a straight punch?TheCentre wrote:

2) Can we arrange for him to Jab you? do not worry -m they are feather touches.
Personally I do not think Haye hits as hard as he thinks, but with speed and accuracy he can KO Wlad.
Vitali would take a lot more punches ansd woud have to be taken out late I believe!
Wlad also holds his hands low when defending himself, but he is an on top fighter of the highest order...
Pressure him and he folds...

Re: Haye's Power
This is all crazy talk, I got laughed out of town for suggested Nigel Benn, while clearly a big puncher, was a clubbing type of puncher and wasn't close to the echeleons of Julian Jackson, Tyson etc, and now people are playing down the power of a snappy puncher like Haye?
Haye is capable of hurting pretty much anyone he faces, full stop.

Re: Haye's Power
Just look at the job he did on Froggomeni and Mormac. I think that proves that Haye can punch.
Whether he can carry that power at Heavyweight remains to be seen, but I would guess that he can.

Re: Haye's Power
a guy whos knocked out all but one of his opponents is surely a massive puncher.
Well see in his next fight against a really big guy if hes massive heavyweight Puncher though
Im sure he has the power to put the "Ivan Drago Clone" as he called him out for the count

Re: Haye's Power
Is the argument here not that Haye isn't a big puncher, but more that he is not a one punch KO artist?
Clearly his record speaks for itself in terms of power, but he hasn't straight up KO'd someone for a while. Wlad has out a fair few Heavy's to sleep with one single shot, where as the Hayemaker stuns his opponent with a big right hand and then follows up with an assault.
Haye's power isn't in question, as has been said, he can hurt anyone he faces but maybe it would take more than one punch to turn around a fight, whereas you feel Wlad could end it all with a single right hand.

Agreed, and the only reason he didn't KO the other bloke is because he wanted to go 12 rounds with someone......Gazmac81 wrote:a guy whos knocked out all but one of his opponents is surely a massive puncher.

You're insane! I accept you may believe Haye's one punch power is overrated. But this analogy proves the opposite you fool!
And secondly:
"I call bullshit on this idea that haye hits harder the K"
Get back in your Klitschko bedcovers. The post said that Williams thought Klitschko hit harder than Haye - Tyson, Klit, Haye *in that order*.
And there's no point anyone stating that Haye didn't one punch KO Barratt - he got up from Kiltschko four times.
Re: Haye's Power
In most fights people don't get up from a Wlad jab + right hand. I mean has soon has he lands it.... the fight is done. While in most fights Haye is incapable of killing of a fighter without throwing a multitude of punches. yes they are hard punches but he never brings down a CW in 1 or 2 punches. he needs a massive amount of landing punches befofre they stay down. I mean just look at any of his fights, 90% of the time he requires A LOT of consecutive landings. While Wlad, can stop a fight with a jab and a right hand that follows after. Period.sharpei_louis wrote:

Oh also sharpei_louis, piece of advice. Before attacking the poster attack the facts, if the poster then does not want to hear anything about it you can attack the poster. Starting off a sentence with an outlandish statement lacks character, almost reminiscent of DG's general behaviour. We already have one jester no reason to have another.

What counts is whether he has enough power to dump Wladimir - and I think the answer to that question is a resounding yes! ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: Haye's Power
He wasn't on his game against Barrett and didn't really land with anything 100% flush. The shots that put Barrett down were all "clipping" punches.
His timing was a little off that night.
He carries plenty of power, and enough to put Wlad in trouble and force a stoppage(despite his so called glass jaw, Wlad always gets up when he gets knocked down, I don't envisage Haye sparking him)

Your ‘analysis’ has a quality I can’t quite put into words; but if I was forced to, I would say that the it's reminiscent of a 14 year old giving his rundown of how he sees the big match at Wrestlemania unfolding.
It’s certainly more Eddie Guerrero than Eddie Futch.
Of course, other posters have pointed out the gaping holes in that risible analysis, but I would like to add the following, not really to heap further embarrassment on poor TheCenter, but to add to the conversation:
First, Haye didn’t really land clean in fight against Barrett. There were a few KDs that were half way between glancing and flush, and a great deal of sloppy swinging for the bleachers. I suspect this was because Haye was anxious to score a dramatic knockout. Without that, it would have been difficult to push quite as hard for a fight against Wlad. That was the plan all along, and it made him over eager.
Second, in the fight against Mormeck, he fought to a very specific plan, which involved him working the body early. In fact, when Haye stays calm, he does tend to fight to smart gameplans in the big fights. I don’t think he can find subtle mid-fight adjustments a la Marquez, but his basic game plan is often sound. Thrashing Mormeck methodically to the body when everyone expected him to go for the early KO was one, but another that stands out in my memory was going after Charles Williams hard early on, when many expected caution in the early rounds.
Third, I don’t think Haye has the same power as Wlad, who is very heavy handed. But I would take that further and say that I don’t believe either man really has the devastating one punch knockout power that, say, Hearns had at welterweight, or Valero has now at 135.
But I believe we’re judging this the wrong way. Klitschko has clearly modified is style to be uber cautious. He walks forward mostly, but doesn’t exactly throw caution to the wind. He stays out of trouble, and tends to slowly break down opponents who, sadly, oftentimes lack the speed or hand and foot, as well as fitness, to overcome being physically overmatched. We don’t, therefore, see much of his one punch power. How many opponents has Klitschko overwhelmed early recently, and what was the quality of those opponents?
Similarly, Haye was over eager and smothered much of his best work against Barrett, and was more cautious against Mormeck, fighting to a gameplan.
What I mean to say, is that we’re looking at this in the wrong way, because, ultimately, either man, if they land clean, has more than enough to put any heavyweight on their backside, let alone with the chins they’ve both got. The question should be can they land clean? And who is more likely to land clean. That’s more relevant than the relative power of each man analysed in isolation.
