What is next for John Murray?
Considering Khan will be fighting Kotelnik ....who will John Murray be fighting next?
IMO Prescott would be the best fight for Murray

Re: What is next for John Murray?
I think he should fight John Thaxton for his British or Maazache for the European
Re: What is next for John Murray?
Jon Thaxton has just been announced as his mandatory challenger. That would be a decent next fight for him, it could also be for the vacant Commonwealth title.
Re: What is next for John Murray?
I hope this happens and Murray wins. I like Thaxton but he's not going to get any better and challenge for w world title. Would like to see Murray go all the way just so Khan can't dodge him.
Re: What is next for John Murray?
good fight for both of them imo.
murray seems to take alot of shots though, so would be a good test for him.
hope it comes off, and gets decent TV coverage

Re: What is next for John Murray?
Murray's promoter needs to get his finger out - Murray simply has to be pushed on now - big fights and big tests only - I honestly think from recent performances he has proved his worth - still concerned about his defence but he is so strong - the defence in my opinion is a must for the steps up in class which simply have to happen now - its now up to Hennessy or Murray should move on if his contract allows!!!
Re: What is next for John Murray?
His defense did look solid in the Meager fight so i'm hoping that it's a case of being able to tighten up when he respects his opponents power, which he didn't seem to so in the McAllister fight.Spud wrote:Murray's promoter needs to get his finger out - Murray simply has to be pushed on now - big fights and big tests only - I honestly think from recent performances he has proved his worth - still concerned about his defence but he is so strong - the defence in my opinion is a must for the steps up in class which simply have to happen now - its now up to Hennessy or Murray should move on if his contract allows!!!
Shame old Mick doesn't spend half the time he dedicates to publicising Tyson Fury's career into John Murray's.
I wonder what he will think if he sees his brother on the Hatton vs Pac undercard?
Re: What is next for John Murray?
He's fighting Thaxton in June. betcha
Re: What is next for John Murray?
Isn't Thaxton going to fight Mezaache again? rematch clause, etc
Re: What is next for John Murray?
Murray won't get anywhere near a world title IMO, if he was as special as people make him out to be then surely he'd be at a further stage than he is now after 6 years as a pro. Mind you I said the same about Hatton too :geek2:
Re: What is next for John Murray?
maybe his promoter is holding him back because he has favouritism toward Thaxton, who knows?banjo wrote:Murray won't get anywhere near a world title IMO, if he was as special as people make him out to be then surely he'd be at a further stage than he is now after 6 years as a pro. Re: What is next for John Murray?
Fight i'd love to see, but don't think it will happen is Murray v Romanov.
could get that one as a world title eliminator, Romanov has done nothing for a year, so needs a fight that would get him exposure and a good payday.

Re: What is next for John Murray?
i'll do the euphemistic version - Thaxton is in his way, too many lightweights with the same promoter perhaps.
Re: What is next for John Murray?
If I was Murray I would go to France to fight Mezaache. He was just a little bit quicker to the punch than Thaxton, and was helped when Thaxton got tired. I think Murray could stop this frog quite early. He didn't look iron-jawed during that first round against Jonno.

Re: What is next for John Murray?
He will need to get up into the mandatory spot I think tho, and with Thaxton being an ex champ I think beating Thaxton would put him right up there in the European ratings.Dioufy wrote:If I was Murray I would go to France to fight Mezaache. Re: What is next for John Murray?
He'll take it if Hennessy offers enough money. I think Mick should concentrate on Murray now. Thaxton has had two massive fights in three bouts and blown it twice.

Isn't Thaxton ahead of him to fight Mezaache?Dioufy wrote:If I was Murray I would go to France to fight Mezaache. Perhaps Murray will have to fight someone like Kudriavtsev, as Murray and Kudriavtsev have the strongest claim as top contender.

A it harsh Dioufy on Jon Thaxton - however I completely agree Hennessy should really put in a massive effort for Murray!!Dioufy wrote:He'll take it if Hennessy offers enough money. I think Mick should concentrate on Murray now. Thaxton has had two massive fights in three bouts and blown it twice.
I really want to see him in a test - lets see what he can do.
To be perfectly honest and no disrespect to Joh Thaxton - I honestly beieve Murray walks right through him - only Thaxton's bravery and sheer courage and determination will get him to the half way point.
Re: What is next for John Murray?
I don't know. All I know now is that Thaxton's had his chance, and failed. Mezaache isn't anything special at all, but yet he nearly knocked Thaxton down. If I was Mick, I wouldn't put Thaxton in with Mezaache, because even if he won, Thaxton would just lose it again. But if Mick put Murray in with Mezaache then that would be the perfect step up for Murray. Thaxton would be a perfect first defence for Murray, if he beats someone like Limond or someone highly rated - that Kurd fighter you said perhaps.
Re: What is next for John Murray?
Thaxton is a sound guy who I highly respect. But the truth is the truth - Thaxton got humiliated Vs Romanov (who was excellent, mind), and then against the French geezer, he was awful (I had it a draw). That's two bad defeats in three fights. And Melero didn't turn up against Jonno - he was awful from the word go. I mean did he even throw a punch Vs Thaxton?Spud wrote:A it harsh Dioufy on Jon Thaxton - however I completely agree Hennessy should really put in a massive effort for Murray!!Dioufy wrote:He'll take it if Hennessy offers enough money. I hate to say it, but Thaxton was probably always on borrowed time when holding that belt.

Re: What is next for John Murray?
Well Mezaache can box on the move fairly well, so perhaps it might be a steady beatdown, where Murray slows the guy down then eventually stops him in the middle stages.
Props to Thaxton, a real warrior, very dangerous early on. He's certainly found his limit at Euro level. I would like to see Murray get moved forward. How can you build any kind of following when you're stopping guys every 6 or 7 months? It honestly looks like he's going to be kept at British level long enough for John Watson to be ready for him.
Boxing fans can have short memories. I think it needs to get to where ppl are talking about Murray all the time, i.e. following impressive win, then leading up to next coming soon fight. I know that Murray wants to be busy, that Joe wants him to be busy. So why isn't he being kept busy?

Re: What is next for John Murray?
After seeing the way Mezaache was wobbled early on, I am going with Murray very early. And I actually think that Mezaache outfought Thaxton, but I know for certain, that light-hitting frog would not dent Murray. I think Murray would wipe the floor with him.
