Jung-Bum Kim

Post by Asterix »

I'm just wondering if Jung-Bum Kim's record is consistent with the others on Boxrec. He is listed as winning by KO (KO, no TKO wins) in all of his fights ending early. Usually a boxer's record is littered with TKOs and only a few KOs. I'm guessing his KO victims didn't all fail to rise for the count, that some of them are actually fights called off by the referee instead.

Grey area in boxing. IMO, if a bloke is floored it's a KO whether the Ref applies the count or not.

I know what you mean. This is how I thought the results went with Boxrec:

Referee waves the fight off (doesn't matter whether the losing boxer is floored or still standing) = TKO
Referee counts to 10 and then waves the fight off = KO

Obviously, the more consistent Boxrec is, the better. If you see a record with lots of pure KOs, generally the guy has a big single punch. For instance, compare the records of Arthur Abraham and Kelly Pavlik. Both are very powerful, but you can see that Abraham knocks them out for the count whereas Pavlik wears them down to a stoppage. I find it very useful to distinguish between the two.

Some commissions do not differentuate and only use KO.

TKO is a subset of KO, and really there is little point in differentiating, what is a RSF in one jurisdiction would have been a CO in another more lax one.

Here is an example: Amore vs. Muangroi-ed

Other State regulators & I would class it KO, but because the Ref didn't apply the count, the official result was TKO.

I'd say, immediate medical attention was more important then lesson in counting.

That particular fight is recorded excellently. It lets you know exactly what happened. If only all fights were recorded like that.
