Froch v Taylor....... online PPV only ?

Post by Finch »

Just saw an advert at the York Hall show tonight, frochvtaylor.com.

Checked it out and the fight will be showcased online for £9.95. Does this mean that it won't be on TV ? Can't see a TV deal with someone like Setanta or ITV and then charging to view it online, doesn't make sense to me ?

I won't be paying a tenner to watch a crap online stream that will probably either go pop or fuzzy / stuttered.

Bit embarrassing for Froch that no TV company will show his fight. Poor old Carl. :TU:

BBC Have confirmed it.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7995665.stm

I find this shocking. Either....

a) The TV broadcasters don't see Froch as a big deal

b) MH and CF are asking too much money......... don't really buy this as something is better than nothing surely, even if it's for the exposure for the next fight defense (providing he wins) ?

I'm not surprised really, how well known is Froch in Britain? Or Taylor for that matter? I could go around my mates(very few of whom care about boxing, never mind watch it) and I could ask them who Khan, Hatton, Calzaghe, Lewis, Hamed etc. are and they'd say "boxers" ask them who Carl Froch is and they'd say "who?" that's the reality of it. Not to mention it would be on at a daft time when everyone is either in bed or out on the piss. Gutted it won't be on TV but that's the sad reality of the situation.

A right kick in the nuts for Froch. Not even ITV can forge an agreement.

Bloody annoying all the money goes into football. Online PPV is a bloody joke, I hope it fails miserably.

I cant see there being much take up for an online PPV, what a shit idea. They should just swallow their pride and take a cheap offer to just get it on and get the exposure.

@ dioufy

Zero chance of me buying this. I might not even watch it.

I don't have a quick computer and the last time I tried to watch a fight online it was decent for 3 rounds and then it just lagged terribly.

Boxing isnt football, even a 3 sec lag means you miss that bone crushing bodyshot or the decpaiating uppercut

A shame because it is a great fight and one in which Froch is gonna look the dog's bollocks in

If I do manage to get a quick laptop in that time I will jut get one of the millions of free ebsites showing this fight

I think I want to cry when I think of how bad a move this is. It gets wore everytime I think about it

I know a lot of boxing fans, and not one of them are going to buy it. It makes me think - if the fans aren't buying it, who will?

No one.

TBH@ Dioufy I am waiting for the fat lady to clear her throat. Until then I am still hoping that Setanta will pck it up

Is anyone in the know when it comes to TV deals. What sort of money would MH be looking for? Wasnt the possibility of Froch fighting in America brought up in negotitions with ITV when they penned the deal?

How much were the pure bids and what share does Froh get as Champion

Yep he'd have got it on Sky no problems. That is the power allegedly has, he is a name and he has the contacts in the right places to make things happen. At a British level Hennessy is a decent promoter but when his guys get to world level he juist doesn't have any clout and I think it's now come to the point that it is seriously damaging Froch's career. If I was Carl i would jump at the chance if there was a possibility to jump into the FW stable. For this fight not to get on tv is farcical and a large portion of the blame has to fall at the promoter's door I'm afraid.

Froch would be better off if Hennessy had offered it to Sky for Free. If Froch is that confident of winning and showcasing the exciting fight skills he claims to have, then a freebie from Sky in a world title fight would get him shitloads of publicity for future fights. May get jack shit for this fight (which he'll get anyway), but look upon it as an investment for the future.

Even if Sky don't get the subsequent fights, then his name will at least be out there no matter who screens his future fights. Got to be looked upon as an investment. Better than the crap that is happening at the mo.
