Ugandan warriors ”Cobra” Abdu Tebazalwa and ”Boyz Boyz” Peter Semo were impressive in lifting Universal Boxing Organization world titles on Saturday December 22 at the Nakivubo Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
Tebazalwa is the new UBO world lightweight champion after stopping Tanzanian “The Thunder” Obote Ameme in five rounds, and Semo claimed the UBO world lightweight crown, finishing off Chaurembo Palasa, also from Tanzania, in four rounds.
Promoter of the show was Eddie Basajja Basira and his Pro Box Scandinavia outfit, and it was a historical night, as it was the first time Uganda hosted world title fights.
Tebazalwa, taking his record to 10-2 in Kampala, had earlier in the year lost a split decision in a challenge for the WBF world title, but he made sure to make the most of his second chance to become world champion, as he controlled Ameme from the outset before ending the fight with a hard right uppercut that send his fellow African staggering into the ropes, where referee Nemish Kavishe called a halt at the 1:56 mark of the fifth stanza.
A happy and exited new world champion made his intentions clear after the bout, saying to anyone who would listen:
“I am ready to fight anybody who stands in my way at the moment! Bring them all on!”
