"A most disappointing boxing crowd at the National stadium - less than 2,000 - saw the classy California fighter Adolph Pruitt in a blaze of speedy footwork and double punches, pound out a unanimous decision over Kid Bassey. Pruitt set a blistering pace from the 1st round, which perplexed the local fighter and he kept the pace to the very end. Round eight saw the full rage of Bassey's anger as he came out of a spot of infighting and Pruitt's head struck him on the chin. Bassey made a big show of shaking off the blow, even protesting. But referee Speedy Flynn signalled them to fight and both started using their knees on each other. Flynn stopped the fight and issued a warning. Pruitt was content to keep the fight on a jabbing, moving, bobbing and weaving relationship. Bassey, in the last three rounds, seemed almost reluctant to throw any punches." -Kingston Gleaner
