"Adolph Pruitt put himself in line for a title shot against welterweight champion Jose Napoles by knocking out Manuel Fierro of Mexico after 2:40 of the 1st round in the scheduled 10 round main event. Pruitt, 144, caught Fierro, 147, with a vicious right hand that sent the Mexican across the ring flat on his back. Fierro managed to stagger to his feet at the count of '9', but wobbly-legged. Referee Walter Cho, however, continued the count and tolled Fierro out." -United Press International
