Adrien Hogan was wounded in action during World War I. Having had his right eye removed, he was unable to continue his career when the war was over. An October 1914 wire-report that appeared in several U.S. papers incorrectly listed him among a number of boxers that had died during the war.
Some photos of Hogan state that he was the heavyweight champion and middleweight champion of France, and others list him as light-heavyweight champion.
