Alfred W. DeVito WWII soldier in Europe; boxing judge and 50-year referee inducted into NJ Boxing Hall of Fame, 96 Alfred W. DeVito, 96, of West Orange, N.J., passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, May 11, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, N.J., to be concluded with a blessing service at 5 p.m. A private cremation will follow. Alfred was born in Newark, N.J., and lived in West Orange since 1957. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with two bronze stars, the American Defense Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Overseas Service Bar while serving in the Rhineland and Central Europe. In civilian life, Alfred was an automobile salesman and worked for many years at the E.J. Korvette's store in West Orange. As an athlete, he was inducted into the N.J. Boxing Hall of Fame and became a professional boxing judge as well as an A.A.U. referee for over 50 years. Predeceased by his brother, Kenneth, in 1978, Alfred is survived by his devoted brother, Eugene, and many nieces and nephews.
