Albert Yasbick was attending Temple University Philadelphia during the day and boxing at night. He was 2-time amateur light heavyweight boxing champion of Virginia and twice nationally ranked 3rd in 1974 and 5th in 1975 by the AAU.

Claim to fame

In the final seconds of the third round of the quarterfinals of the AAU National Championship Boxing Tournament in Shreveport, LA in the summer of 1975 and losing the fight, Yasbick got in a lucky punch (uppercut) and stunned and almost knocked out Leon Spinks. Spinks won that fight and went on the win the National Championships for the second time before turning pro.

Later that summer Yasbick, in an International boxing match knocked out the Canadian Light Heavyweight Champion in the 2nd round in Baltimore, MD before turning Pro in October, 1975 in Philadelphia, PA.
