Biography

Allen " The Bear" Klein " was a colorful heavyweight from Miami Beach, Florida, noted more for his personality than his boxing career.

A giant of a man who came from a family of big people. His mother stood 6 feet and weighed 200 pounds. His younger brother stood 6 feet 2 inches and weighed 240lbs. Klein stood 6 feet 5 inches, and usually weighed 280 pounds.

A graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School, Klein worked as a cashier at a local 7-11 type store in North Miami Beach, Florida in the late 1970s. He was a resident at the Bal Harbor Hotel, and a regular at Big Daddy's Lounge and Pappy's Nightclub in North Miami, Florida. Klein never drank beer or alchohol, but would drink between 10-15 glasses of coke-a-cola.

Klein was also noted for his happy and friendly personality, his Abraham Lincoln type beard, and his sun-glasses. Klein had a build similar to heavyweight contender Ron Stander. He developed a colorful punch called, The Behind The Back Whirl-Wind Punch.

Klein reportedly had three pro-fights, winning two by knockout. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he volunteered to work with his idol, Jerry Lewis, during his Labor Day Television Charity Event.

On July 2, 1983 in Louisiana, Klein made an unsuccessful comeback, losing a four-round decision to Floyd Womack.

Klein lives in Illinois and has been married six times. He is on disability due to a heart condition.
