Bout Summary

Katsidis, in normal fashion, opened the fight by pressing forward and throwing a high volume of punches. He pressed Mensah against the ropes and worked both to the body and upstairs, but many of his shots were blocked or seemingly had little steam behind them. Mensah slipped and bounced back and forth on the ropes and looked for opportunities to land straight shots in between Katsidis's attack. Mensah had more success when able to get distance and use his reach advantage to land jabs and straight rights. He often pushed Katsidis back to create space. Mensah had increased success in Rounds 3 and 4 firing shots in between the guard of Katsidis. In Round 4, Mensah repeatedly caught Katsidis with left-uppercut, right-hand combinations. The 4th was first round Mensah threw more punches (over 100) than Katsidis. He too landed at a higher percentage. Mensah increased his momentum in Round 5 working with a jab when allowed distance and covering up to avoid many of Katsidis's punches. Katsidis continued to press forward in Round 6, but was starting to take clean, heavy shots in order to get on the inside. He closed the round decently, however, as Mensah was backed into a corner and not moving as well as he had in rounds prior. Mensah opened Round 7 looking to score a knockout. He threw loaded power shots, many of which missed altogether. Katsidis controlled the second half of the round by getting Mensah against the ropes and landing in flurries. By the end of Round 8, Katsidis had developed some swelling and bruising under both eyes. Action was paused in Round 9 to replace the mouthpiece of Katsidis. A pair of left hooks hurt Katsidis in the final minute of Round 9 and sent him back into the ropes. Mesah came in and landed several more clean punches that rocked Katsidis prior to the bell. Mensah threw loaded shots throughout Round 10 with some success as Katsidis kept throwing but was on wobbly legs.
