Bout Summary
Mosquera controlled the opening round using his quickness to move in quickly and land. He found success working to the body and caught at tentative Perez with some solid straight left hands. In the 2nd, Mosquera continued to work well both to the body and upstairs moving in and out of punching range. Perez turned up his output in the round as well and although he had trouble connecting against his faster opponent he was able to land intermittently. Also in the 2nd, a cut opened on the outside of Perez's right eyebrow. In Round 4 the momentum had swung as Mosquera appeared a step slower and Perez, now the aggressor, threw big shots behind a pawing jab. A right uppercut in the final minute of the round appeared to hurt Mosquera. Perez continued gaining momentum in the 5th landing a pair of nice left hooks against a now tentative Mosquera. In the fan-friendly Round 6, both fighters threw in close quarters with Mosquera banging Perez to the body and Perez focusing primarily on power shots upstairs. Round 7 saw Perez working moderately with a jab and Mosquera continuing to throw hooks to the body. The action was less in the 7th, however, as both were more content to clinch. The 8th likely went to Perez as he controlled the middle portion outworking Mosquera, who was waiting for countering opportunities and tying up his opponent on the inside. Perez continued strongly in the 9th, using his length to land long straight shots. Mosquera, who was warned in the round for using a forearm in a clinch, threw very little and consistently held his opponent when able. A competitive final round saw Mosquera increase his work rate early and Perez throw more in the second half of the round. Following the announcement of the first score in favor of Mosquera, the infuriated corner of Perez attempted to immediately remove their fighter from the ring. He did, however, remain in the ring for the announcement of the draw.
