"A month ago nobody north of the Pampas knew his name, but today there is a clamor to match Alejandro Lavorante for the world heavyweight championship after his four-knockdown, 7th round KO victory over 3rd ranked Zora Folley Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium. The Argentine battler broke out of a shell in the 6th round and floored Folley twice. That paved the way to Folley's folly as he elected to swap punches with Lavorante in the 7th after he had fought a cautious battle through five rounds and had piled up a point advantage. Lavorante quickly dropped him for a third time, again with a right hand. As Zora regained his feet Lavorante shot a short right and left to the head that toppled him and referee George Latka didn't bother to count." -Long beach Press-Telegram
- Wire services at the time stated that this was Folley's second KO loss in a row in back-to-back fights. However, Folley actually beat Willi Besmanoff and Norm Letcher between those bouts.
