Willi Besmanoff 190 lbs lost to Alex Miteff 203 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

With bustling aggressiveness, featuring a lusty but erratic left hook, Alex Mitff, 202 1/2, Argentina, pounded his way to a decision over Billy Besmanoff, 190 1/2, Germany, in a brawling ten at St. Nicholas Arena. Miteff was too industrious for the plegmatic Besmanoff. The German appeared in better form than against Archie McBride in the same ring three weeks before, but he was too defensive minded. He punched fast and authoratively when he did elect to fight. but he didn't elect often enough. His flurries were rare and brief. For the most part he seemed content to let Miteff set the pace and crowd him against the ropes and into corners. Miteff concentrated on a body attack, and scored heavily with left hooks, but his punching was sometimes less than accurate. He repeatedly dropped blows below the belt, but Referee Teddy Martin ignored the many low shots. At the finish Besmanoff was bleeding from the nose and several nicks around both eyes. Miteff was cut along the left eye.
