According to an article published in the Nov. 1, 1907 Tacoma Daily Ledger (Tacoma, WA, USA): Alfred King Allen had been born in Dubuque, Iowa, USA. He learned to box in Minneapolis, and eventually claimed to have had about 100 bouts, including becoming the Canadian national champion. He also claimed his debut was a win over Fred Wyatt at Plattsburg, NY. He time, he quit boxing to buy and run a hotel and bar, making very good money. He ran the Hotel Empire in Ottawa, Canada. But soon he was drinking too much, then became addicted to absinthe, then morphine--eventually spending six months at Central Prison in Toronto. Three weeks after getting out of prison he fought Jack Munroe. By late 1907 he was living in Chicago and had found the Christian religion and was free from his morphine addiction.
