"Irish Johnny Caldwell apparently clinched a fight with Eder Jofre of Brazil for the undisputed world bantamweight title on the strength of his repeat victory over Alphonse Halimi of France. Caldwell retained his European version of the 118-pound crown by outpointing Halimi in a 15-round bout Tuesday night at the Wembley Indoor Stadium. It was the 25th straight victory for the unbeaten Belfast boxer. The crowd of 10,000 cheered only half-heartedly when referee Porfirio Marin of Spain, who took almost two minutes to add up the scoring, raised Caldwell's arm in victory." -United Press International
