Tim Witherspoon 239 lbs lost to Andrew Golota 238 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

Fighting before a home crowd for the first time in his career, the heavyweight Andrew Golota put together a unanimous 10-round decision over the aging former champion Tim Witherspoon yesterday in Wroclaw, Poland.

Witherspoon, 40, fought hard but was unable to land his tradmark overhand right, missing at least seven times and only glancing Golota with it a few other times.

The crowd of more than 5,000 chanted Golota's name throughout and roared its approval with almost every punch. Neither fighter was hurt, though Witherspoon's jabs bloodied Golota's nose in the ninth round. Golota fought with extreme control, staying on the outside and clipping Witherspoon with frequent short punches that caused little damage but scored points.
