Andy Kendall 175 lbs beat Roque Proano 175 lbs by KO at 1:08 in round 2 of 10

  • Date: 1965-03-16
  • Location: Hacienda Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
  • Referee: Harold Krause

"Fast-rising Oregon light heavy Andy Kendall needed only four minutes last night to dispose of Rouque Proano in the main event at the Hacienda Hotel on the Strip. Kendall caught the 175 pound Tucson fighter with a brutal right hand under the heart that sent him down on both knees at 1:09 of the 2nd round of the scheduled 10. Proano stayed on his knees for the full 10 count and then staggered to his feet shaking his head. Kendall fought his usual stalking style, carrying the attack through the short fight. It was obvious Kendall was the superior fighter and ringside bettors quickly began laying odds on how long the fight would go." -The Las Vegas Sun

  • State Athletic Commission chairman Art Lurie indicated he would be holding up Proano's purse pending an investigation of what he thought was an unsatisfactory ending.
