Bout Summary
Jones came out aggressively and took the fight to Rooney. Midway through the round an off-balance Rooney, went down to a knee and across the middle rope. Although it could have been ruled a slip, it was ruled a knockdown and Rooney receive a mandatory eight-count. In Round 2, a straight left hand sent Rooney stumbling back and down for the second time in the fight. He was up at the count of four. Rooney switched to southpaw for much of the second half of Round 3 and landed some clean power shots. Rooney was measured in his approach in Round 4 despite trailing on the cards. He mostly looked for opportunities to catch Jones with the right hand. Jones boxed the first half of the round on the outside and the two mixed it up a little more as the round ended with neither man landing any major punches of note.
