Archie Wyard was a star amateur boxer with the Ballard Amateur Athletic Club in 1912, before turning professional. [1]. Along with Earl Baird and Eddie Pinkman, he was one of the Pacific Coast's best amateur lightweight boxers. [2]

As with other Washington state boxers of this era, sometimes it is difficult to determine whether early bouts of Wyard's career were truly amateur or had "professional" attributes [3], due to the way state law was abused.
