- Date: 1971-08-14
- Location: Convention Center, Anaheim, California, USA
- Referee: Rudy Jordan
"Armando Muniz showed 8,200 fans in the Anaheim Convention Center some real power Saturday night. Exploding with sudden fury in the 5th round, Muniz knocked out Gil King in the first of two scheduled 10 rounders. Muniz was sensational. He abruptly broke open a close fight with only 20 seconds remaining in the 5th round. It was an overhand right that did the damage and it caught King on the chin as he was moving in. King's eyes blinked and he staggered back. Muniz leaped to the attack, landing solid punches with both hands. Just as the bell sounded referee Rudy Jordan grabbed King, keeping him from falling. King was out on his feet wandering around in his corner when Jordan decided that was all. Until the abrupt finish, King had been doing a good job and the fight had the fans, who contributed to a gate of $38,441, yelling wildly. Taking advantage of his edge in reach, King had the better of the going in the 1st and 3rd rounds." -The L.A. Times
