"Johnny Rico and most of the crowd of 2,800 at the Tucson Community Center Arena thought Rico was the winner in a 10 round fight with Armando Muniz of Los Angeles. A wild and bloody brawl that lived up to pre-fight predictions. Neither boxer backed off during the fight. Muniz was forced to go for a knockout after suffering a bad cut over his left eye in the 1st round. Rico kept trying to reopen the cut throughout the fight. The cut bled for five rounds but when it slowed up, Muniz changed his tactics and was more patient and effective. Muniz earned a split decision." -Tucson Daily Citizen
