Armando Muniz vs. Pete Ranzany
Armando Muniz 150 lbs beat Pete Ranzany 148 lbs by TKO in round 6 of 10
- Date: 1977-12-13
- Location: Memorial Auditorium, Sacramento, California, USA
- Referee: Rudy Ortega 56-59
- Judge: Mario Duccini 57-58
- Judge: Bob Mitchell 56-59
"Pete Ranzany came out fast. Hard jabs, followed by winging hooks and straight rights, all found the face of Armando Muniz. The pace stayed the same in the 2nd round. It appeared that in this round, while the two were working in close, an accidental butt opened a small cut above Ranzany's right eye. However, the cut hardly bled and Ranzany went about his business of outboxing Muniz. In the 4th round, a hard left hook by Muniz ripped the cut wide open, and the blood began to flow heavily. Ranzany's corner was able to stem the flow of blood, but it didn't take much to reopen the wound in the 5th. In the 6th Muniz switched his brutal assault from Ranzany's body to his head. Every time Muniz landed a punch to the cut, blood flew off Ranzany's face like water. At the end of the 6th round, the referee, on the advice of the ringside physician, stopped the fight." -World Boxing, May 1978 issue

- "I know a lot of people here in Sacramento will be disappointed in the outcome. I don't want to be praised for winning on a cut." -Armando Muniz
