Art Aragon 138 lbs beat Lauro Salas 131 lbs by MD in round 10 of 10

"Welterweight Art (Golden Boy) Aragon turned his eyes on New York and his back on state featherweight champ Lauro Salas today after evening an old score with the little brawler. Aragon found barroom brawling under the Marquis of Queensbury rules to his liking last night and won a majority 10 round decision over Salas at the Olympic Auditorium. Salas carried the war to Aragon in the 1st round and then covered up for three rounds while the 'Golden Boy' slammed away at him with both hands. Salas came back strong in the 5th and 6th with a two-handed assault, forcing Aragon to retreat. In the next two rounds, however, Salas eased up his attack, and Aragon drove in close and battered him with short, chopping blows. Salas came back to give as good as he took in the 9th and 10th heats, but the rally came too late." -United Press

  • The grudge match the accompanying article suggests was due to a fist fight Aragon and Salas engaged in two months earlier in a Mexican restaurant.
  • Unofficial UP scorecard - 5-5 in rounds.
  • Attendance - 10,000
  • Gate - $30,318
