"Vince Martinez, the belter from Paterson, N.J., aiming for a shot at champion Kid Gavilan, handed Art Aragon, the Los Angeles veteran a terrible beating last night to win a unanimous decision in 10 rounds of a brutal match. Aragon's face was a bloody mess. He had slashes around both eyes which were almost shut tight, his nose was broken and his mouth was cut. Martinez, with a deadly left jab that kept Aragon's head popping back, began piling up points in the 2nd round and started Art's left eye bleeding. Martinez did, however, have to absorb some of Aragon's most potent blows to escape serious injury. Aragon had him dizzy in the 5th and 7th rounds but each time Vince managed to survive and return as much as he took. There was no question about the verdict." Associated Press
