- "Even when he's hurt, you just don't trade punches with Art!" -Burke Emery, Hafey's manager
"Number three ranked featherweight Art Hafey, 125, Pacific Beach,, survived a 1st round knockdown to blast Ricardo 'Macanas' Garcia, 127, Mexicali, into submission at 2:36 of the 2nd round. Known for his lethal left hook, Garcia tried his weapon out for size against Hafey's jaw in the 1st, and Art promptly dropped on one knee to the canvas. Then Ricardo made a costly mistake. Knowing his man was dazed, the Mexican carelessly began swinging wildly at Hafey at the tail end of the frame. When Garcia continued his roundhouse onslaught in the 2nd, Hafey quickly stepped in with a left-right combination that flattened Ricardo for the 10 count." -World Boxing, September 1974 issue
