Art Lurie was a referee in Nevada from 1953 to 1956. Then he was a judge until 2003 when he retired aged 85. Lurie was also a member of the Nevada Athletic Commission and a businessman in Las Vegas.

He has judged almost 200 championship fights including Ali vs. Spinks I, which he scored 143-142 for Ali.
