"White" Heavyweight Championship of the World
Luther McCarty was pronounced dead about eight minutes after the knockout, which came after about 2 minutes of fighting. The coroner's jury decided that no blow had been responsible for McCarty's collapse, but that death was due to a hemorrhage of the brain, probably caused by a previous injury. The next day Tommy Burns's Arena was destroyed by fire; arson was suspected.
