Arthur Wirtz was a partner with ex-champion Joe Louis and Jim Norris in the International Boxing Club during the late 1940s into the 1950s. He was also the Executive-President and Treasurer of the Olympia Stadium in Detroit during at least 1945.
Wirtz began his business career in real estate, and became friends with Norris when they purchased the Olympia and its main tenant, the Detroit Red Wings. He would then later buy the Chicago Stadium and stakes in Madison Square Garden and the St. Louis Arena, before starting the IBC with Norris. During this time he would also buy the NHL's Chicago Black Hawks: his family retains ownership of the 'Hawks to this day.
