"Tury Pineda, 130, of Mexicali, withstood a flurry of blows Thursday night and then knocked out Speedy Naldo, 127 1/2, of the Philippines in the 2nd round of their scheduled 10 round fight at the Olympic Auditorium. Naldo made a fast start and was belting Pineda freely despite a left hook that put him down for an eight-count in the 1st round. The Filipino got off the floor after the count and again carried the fight to Pineda. But after a flurry of blows early in the 2nd round, Pineda again floored Naldo for an eight-count. When Naldo got up, he appeared groggy and referee George Latka stopped the fight at 2:24 of the round." -United Press International
