Name: Augie Pisano
Birth Name: Angelo Pisano
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York, USA
Pro Boxer: Record

The statement has appeared somewhere (possibly in The Ring) that the boxer Augie Pisano was the same person as a notorious hired killer, also named Augie Pisano (actual name Anthony Carfano). However, this does not appear to be the case. Wiki biographies give the birthdate of the criminal Augie Pisano as 1898. Also, he is supposed to have launched into his criminal career in the early 1920s. According to the Everlast Boxing Record, 1928 and other editions, the boxer Augie Pisano was born June 6, 1905. He began his professional boxing career in 1922 and continued to box through the 1920s. Therefore, in the absence of definitive knowledge of his life, it appears that the boxer simply had the misfortune to have the same name as a notorious criminal

From a relative: I am a nephew-in-law of Augie Pisano. There always seems to be much confusion about him, so I will tell what I was told directly by him, his wife (my Aunt Marion) and my parents. He was a good boxer, but not a good businessman. When he started having some success the friends he grew up with, who were now members of organized crime gangs, offered to handle his finances. He trusted them and as a result they stole all his money and even stole his name. One of them, Anthony Carfano, claimed for years that he was the boxer Augie Pisano, which wasn't true. My uncle made a lot of money for the time, but was left penniless and had to work the rest of his life as a janitor in the Brooklyn Navy Yards, living in a small basement apartment near Coney Island. He never had any children.

BTW, the picture shown isn't of him.
