"Ayub Kalule, for once not topping the bill, had an easy night outpointing New York's Sugar Ray Hammond after eight one-sided rounds. Hammond was driven backwards throughout the fight and took a standing count in the 6th, but was saved by the bell. The Bronx welterweight looked exhausted towards the end and shook his head between rounds as if frustrated with not being able to get through with his punches. The Ugandan won every round by a clear margin and was simply too strong and too clever for the American in every aspect of the game." -Boxing Digest, October, 1979 issue
