"Ayub Kalule of Uganda built up an early lead and held on for a majority decision over Ray Seales of Tacoma, Wash., in a 10 round middleweight fight Thursday night. Two judges scored it narrowly for the 24 year old Ugandan, unbeaten in 23 pro bouts, and one called it a draw after the Denmark-based Kalule had dominated the first five rounds. Seales, a native of the Virgin Islands, started slowly and on the defensive with Kalule setting the pace and using his guile to overcome the longer reach and grater height of the American." -Associated Press
- The AP reported that this bout was the first time as a pro that Kalule conceded a round to an opponent.
