- Date: 1966-03-03
- Location: K.B. Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark
The undefeated Schoolteacher / boxer Borge Krogh of Aalborg, Denmark moved from lightweight to light welter when he outpointed hardpunching Italian Romano Bianchi over 10 rounds. The Dane's aim is still the European lightweight title, held by French Maurice Tavant. This was no warm up fight. Bianchi ( 11-2-0 ) was dangerous in infighting with uppercuts to the body. Krogh ( 13-0-1 )jabbed with his snake bit- lefts, showing endless variations on a single blow. According to newspaper Berlingske Tidende, Krogh also showed a " reflective ability to move away when the going got tough ". The Italian was frustrated in the 5th, dropping his guard ala Muhammad Ali. Bianchi sure floated like a butterfly, but his grin quickly disappeared when he was caught by more of Kroghs hard lefts. The Italian was seriously back in the 6th, bruising Krogh's right eye and hitting with a left swing to the body. From the on it was only Krogh, except for a too late rally from the Italian in the 10th.
