Served as president of the Boxing Writers Association of America from 1984 to 1989 and served several times as president of the New York Boxing Writers Association.

- 1972 Nat Fleischer Memorial Award - The Boxing Writers Association of America Excellence in Broadcasting Journalism Award
- 1973 James J. Walker Award - The Boxing Writers Association of America award for "long and meritorious service"
- 1989 James A. Farley Award - The Boxing Writers Association of America award for "honesty and integrity in boxing"
- 1992 - Inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame
