  • Norwegian Roy Askvold moved to light heavyweight and took on the dangerous and still ambitious Dutchman Bas van Duivenbode. The small framed Askvold crouched in the 1st and caught many of the tall Duivenbode's straight lefts and rights on his gloves. Askvold rushed in attacks, but was countered effectively with irritating left jabs. Duivenbode increased the tempo in the 4th and a frustrated Askvold was hit in the face repeatedly. He just couldn't get close to the elusive Dutchman. After the 5th, Askvold raved to his corner and had to be persuaded to go through the last round. This he did, just to last the distance, knowing he had lost.

Aftenposten's Leif K.Nilsen voiced concern about Askvold who now seemed to have lost his fighting spirit. In the 4th round, ringsiders could hear the Norwegian's heavy breathing as he struggled.

Trivia: Both boxers participated in the Light middleweight divison,Rome Olympics 1960, but didn't face each other. Askvold became nr.23,Duivenbode nr 11.
