"A portable oxygen tank got a major portion of the credit today for Buster Tyler's upset victory over Beau Jack last night. Tyler was saved by the bell at the end of the 1st round and was carried to his corner, where Pete Reilly, a veteran second, administered the oxygen and revived Tyler. Tyler came back strong in the 2nd round and won it even though he was down again for no count. He continued to dominate the battle from the 3rd through the 6th rounds, but Jack rallied in the 7th and 8th rounds and in the 8th floored Tyler for a nine count. Again Tyler got up and battled Jack to a standstill, winning the 9th and holding even in the 10th. Jack finished the fight with a tightly closed left eye." -United Press

• Chick Wergeles, Jack's manager, sent a telegram to New Jersey State Athletic Commissioner John Hall the following day that read: "In view of the unfair decision rendered against Beau Jack I appeal to you to suspend Referee Paul Cavalier for incompetence and to reverse the decision."
